CTSA Planning Grant Application Submitted March 2006
(funded September 2006)

Abstract

The goal of the University of Cincinnati (UC) Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Planning Grant application is to plan an Institutional CTSA application, in which we will develop an academic home for clinical and translational research by transforming the current clinical and translational research environment at UC.  The UC academic health center (AHC) is comprised of 3 organizationally separate but partnering medical centers:  University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC), Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), and the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).  The CTSA Planning Grant, and the Institutional CTSA grant, are perfectly aligned with the goals of the UC AHC and the recommendations of a recently convened Task Force to assess clinical and translational research needs at the UC AHC.  With this application, we propose a 12-month Planning Grant designed to prepare a competitive Institutional CTSA application including all elements of the UC AHC. This aim will be realized by assessing existing programs and how they can be developed into focus areas of the Institutional CTSA through several Working Groups.   This process will address what organizational and cultural changes will need to be made to successfully develop and maintain the elements of the Institutional CTSA and develop a plan for evaluating and governing the Institutional CTSA.
